GLOBAL TROPICAL CYCLONE TRACKS - MAY 1999
NORTH INDIAN OCEAN (NIO) - Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea
NOTE: The tracking and intensity information for North Indian Ocean
Basin tropical cyclones is based upon operational warnings from
the Joint Typhoon Warning Center of the U.S. Air Force and Navy
at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The MSW are based on a 1-min averaging
period, which is used by all U.S. civilian and military weather
services for tropical cyclone warnings. Some information was
also obtained from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

Note: The JTWC warning MSW at 20/0600 UTC was reported as 105 kts, but
based upon information given in the final warning regarding intensity
at landfall, I have listed the MSW as 110 kts.

SOUTHWEST PACIFIC (SWP) - South Pacific Ocean East of Longitude 160E
NOTE: Tracking and intensity information for the following system was
obtained from three sources. From the beginning position through
22/1800 UTC, the information is based upon operational warnings
issued by the Fiji Meteorological Service. The information from
23/0000 UTC through 25/0000 UTC is based upon marine warnings
issued by Brisbane and Sydney (as indicated in the Remarks
column). These were sent to me by Matthew Saxby--a special
thanks to Matthew for passing them along. Information from
25/0600 UTC and onwards was sent to me by Steve Ready of the New
Zealand Meteorological Service, and likewise a special thanks
to Steve for sending me this portion of the track.
